Korma Chameleon Preview!

We decided to make a short preview for the band to be able to post on their facebook wall meanign that their fans could get excited about the actual video. So i sent it to the band and as you can see they were really happy with the video and they soon posted it on their facebook page and we  got various 'likes' comments as well as friends passing comments when we saw them.

So here is the preview, enjoy!

Digipak & Magazine planning

For our ancillary task we have many ideas which we think will work really well for the bands digipak as well as the magazine article and as we are all art students as well it meant we could perhaps be a bit more creative with it. We wanted to use a lot of colour for this task due to the title of the song 'Korma Chameleon' and to represent to fireworks within out music video.

We began by looking at various album/digipak covers for inspiration which also linked with our genre as well as bands which had done similar covers to the image we wanted. We looked at OKGO as they have been such a big inspiration to us and fit the same genre we thought that they perhaps may have interesting covers. As you can see they have used quite artistic ways of creating their albums. The first one i really like and we could perhaps have a go at creating but using paint instead of the floral print to create the wording making it a bit more interesting. The second one is obviously really unquie, fun and I can imagine a lot of people would like this and it would capture people's eyes when set on a shelf in store.

The second band we looked at was The Stone Roses this has really inspired us and due to them being a boy band we can use similar images etc. As you can see they use a lot of actually artwork rather than computerised paintings etc. The text is also really simple and it works because if the text was as busy as the background it would be to much. I really like the Stone Roses album covers the represent the genre as well as the band with this own going artistic vibe. Just like to OKGO covers these would defintly stand out if they were sat on a shelf in a store as they are so eye catching. I also like the fact they don't always feature the band meaning its a bit different also true fans would instantly recognise the cover and pick it up and purchase it.

So from this we had various ideas to begin testing our ancillary task, we painted various 'splashes' of paint which we then used to start experiment new ideas.I made a short video to explain our ideas:

OK GO inspired scene.

After watching more and more music video's and coming across video's such as the OKGO End love video, we really liked the idea of using stop-motion within. However when we looked further into this video we realised it wasn't actually stop-motion but was simply one video which had been sped up/slow downed.

However we still wanted to create this sort of effect, we did various testers before filming in the band, the video below is simple a serious of images put together when we were testing some moves which we thought would look good in this scene.

After testing various moves we put a routine together meaning we could direct the band through it on the day. We also just wanted to see if it would look effective or whether we should decide on another idea, we filmed the the routine which is in the video below we also decided to do it in a similar location so we could get an idea of lighting and just a general feel of what it would look like.

The final video is the actual footage of DanceGrenade doing the set routine, as you will see it really works, the location is great, costumes and the routine works better than we thought it would.

Shooting Schedule

Sunday 28th October 2012
Live performance 7.30pm-9.00pm

At the gig DanceGrenade would be the headlining band, there is 3 other bands which perform beforehand almost like support bands.
We will have three cameras for this, one will be set up at the back in the DJ booth and will be filming the whole performance showing the band and the audience.
The other two cameras will be at the front where two of us will be doing various shots of instruments, band members and the audience.
We will film each song so we can get various camera shots of the instruments, however when filming Korma Chameleon we will make sure we film many close ups of Gav singing.

Monday 5th November 2012
Bonfire/fireworks 7.00pm-8.00pm

This will all be shot with one camera mostly.
We will firstly film the firework display at Thurlby fireworks this will most likely be one shot throughout of the fireworks in the sky.
We will then film our Good Time- Owl city inspired scene, with people dancing around the bonfire, this will be a long shot throughout.
We will also film jus the bonfire with no one around it.
Sunday 11th November 2012
Woodland/OKGO 11.00am-3.00pm

We arranged a day to meet with the band meaning we would all be able to attend.
We will film various shots in different areas of the woods.
Some will be simply shots of the instruments, others will be of the band playing the instruments.
The main aspect of this day was filming the OKGO inspired scene which we will find a well lit area in the woods to film.
We will shoot various different shots meaning we have a wide range of different shots to work with.

Props & Lighting

Props

For our music video after various disussions we realised there wouldn't be any props as such that we would really need, however we made lists of what we would need for each day.

Live Gig:
- Microphones and stands
- Guitars
- Drum kit and drum sticks
- Lighting(this was provided at the venue)
-

Bonfire/ Firework scene:
- Bonfire
- Sparklers
- Fireworks
However as we were going to a public event all our props were there it ws just a case of us filming them.

Woodland scene:
- Guitars
- One drum including a strap and drum sticks
- A picnic table
Like the bonfire scene various props were provided, so when filming this scene it would be a case of filming certain aspects depending on what we come across such as a bench, or specific tree etc.

Also during all three days of filming we would need to make sure we brought any cameras, tripods, lighting etc with us.

Lighting

Live Gig-
As we filmed at their live performance at the Voodoo Lounge this meant that all the lighting was already provided  meaning we were lucky that we didn't have to provide our own. However there will be a brighter spot light on the lead singer meaning that he is perhaps lit better than the other band members which perhaps could cause problem when we come to editing as it may be difficult to see them in the video. Also we have been told that there will be a smoke machine which may look really good but if this ever goes over the band members faces there faces will be covered and it may be difficult to see them.

Firework/Bonfire scene-
We didn't need lighting for this area of filming as we were filming fireworks which would obviously be lit themselves with the black night sky meaning they would stand out. Also when filming the bonfire we wanted the people dancing around it to be silouettes meaning that the light will be from the bonfire.

Woodland scene-
As we would be filming in the daytime the set would be lit by the sun and the day we have scheduled to film has a weather report to be sunny meaning that the band will be well lit and it also means the leaves on the floor will stand out when the sun shiesn on them making a really nice image for our music video.

Costume

Costume
When it came to deciding what the band members would be dressed in various ideas came into mind, however some proved difficult or other complications meant it then wasn't achievable.
When we first decided we would be filming in the woods we had various ideas of what we would like the band to wearing. One very unique idea we had was inspired by Dario G-Sunchyme we thought of perhaps having the band members in woodland animals. This would give something for the audience to remember when viewing it and are likely to go back to it and show friends it. The image below gives you an idea of the type of image we wanted this would also show the creative side of the group. Also below is the video which inspired us.

However when it came to discussing with the band what they would be wearing at their live gig they said they would be dressed in halloween themed outfits due to it being a halloween themed gig. This became a problem for us as we wanted the video to flow and two extreme costume changes could be confusing for the viewer. So we decided to progress from this looking at ideas which could flow, we decided to have a go at face painting a skeleton as an experiement. We thought that this looked really effective so we asked the band members to wear blank so we could then paint their faces and this would then flow from the gig to the woodland scenes.

Once again there were further complications which came along with this, the band were not willing to wear black and have their face painted as they said it wasn't the vision they had for their music video and it doesn't fit the bands image. So on the day of filming in the woods they wore casual clothing which fitted the genre also the colours they were wearing stood out as well as matched the colours of the leaves which were on the woodland floor. So this actually turned out to work well and it wasn't a total diaster and when watching the footage the contrast of colours including the leaves and clothing worked really well as you can see from the images.

The other area of filming was the firework scene, however the band weren't there for this scene it was simply just friends which we asked to dance around the bonfire. So they were dressed in casual clothing, mostly warm clothing such as hats, scalfs and gloves. This will link to the woodland scene due to showing what time of year it is, however any people are silloettes meaning you can't really see what they are wearing.
