Stop-motion testing

After watching the OKGO video's we decided that we would really like to use stop-motion some where within our music promo and we thought it would also work really well with the genre and song. So to see whether it was possible or not we did a few testers. The first video myself and Lucy did the macarena but this proved difficult and when we put the footage onto the mac to view we realised there was a few issues with it. The camera we used had burts/sport mode which meant it took 10 photographs at a time after this we would go look at the images meaning the camera and me and lucy had moved so when putting it together it didnt run smoothly. However once we had noticed this we went back and did it again this time not moving the camera and myself and Lucy not moving meaning everything was in the same place each time. This video worked better as you can clearly see.

Details of actors

Due to the band being local we are fortunate to be able to use them as the 'actors' in our piece meaning they will feature in their own music video and they can use it for their benefit. However working with the band can be proven to be difficult as we have to try and create their visions which they have as a band, they also want the image they have to continue. However we also have the advantage of being able to go to their gig, use their equipment and get the experience of working with band, who may perhaps put more work into it than if we were to use friends etc to act as the band members. As they also go to a different school to us it was difficult to arrange days to meet with them to film so most of our filming will be done at weekends and during october half term.

These are the four band members
Gavin Jones
Adam Weisz
Loui Parsons
Jamie Cameron

Mood Boards

This a mood board which is collabrating our ideas. The first set of images show photos from the Dario G-Sunchyme music video this is our inspiration for what we would imagine the band to be in making it unique. The next set of images is just of the band, these are all images which they have taken themselves but it shows their unique, humorous side which we will capture within their music video. The third set of images is inspiration for the live performance/firework scene. I really like how bright and bold the colours are and I think this will work really well within our music video. The last set of images is pictures from OK GO's end love video, this has inspired us a great deal and we will be using ideas from this video when creating ours.

Location 3

The final location will be in the local woods, for this we will create the OKGO section as well as the band just generally having fun, playing their instuments. We thought due to the time of year that the weather would be dull and we would have lighting issues, however on the day of filming it was sunny all day, which gave a really nice image of the autumn leaves glowing.

Location 2

The second part of out footage is taking from the Good time video, we wanted people to be dancing around a campfire etc. So our second location is a firework display including a bonfire which we were able to get people dancing in front of which looks really effective.

We were lucky with the time of year meaning that we had the opportunity to be able to film at a firework display. We were also lucky that there was a local firework display meaning it was easy to access and we were able to collect more footage.

We filmed the fireworks at Lawrance Park in Thurlby which is a village just outside of Bourne, this map gives you more an ida of where it was.

Location 1

For our music promo we are filming three different areas of footage to then be able to collaborate them into making our music video. Our first location will be the Voodoo Lounge where they are performing at. The venue included a stage, a sound/lighting system, a bar and an area of the audience to stand, the venue soon filled up and it was a great atmosphere throughout the night. DanceGrenade were the 'head line' of the night and they had the biggest applause from the audience as they are hugely popular in the local area and everyone enjoys listening to their music.

Mamma Liz's is in Stamford this image shows where abouts in Stamford it is located.

As you can see the band advertised their gig in various ways, they were on the venue's website meaning people who are regulars at the venue may go check them out, they also made a group on facebook and invited many people who could then pass the message on. By using a social network it meant that more people would hear about it as social advertising is so popular.

They also posted various tweets on twitter where their fans will obviously read them and will be able to keep updated with what they are doing.

Analysing the lyrics

As a group we took the lyrics which the band were kind of enough to send to us and we analysed them, picking out various lyrics which we could create imagery to represent within the music video. By doing this we came out with various visual aspects, locations, costumes etc and it became a lot easier to begin putting our music promo together.

Inspiration

OK GO- End love and Owl City ft Carly Rae Jepsen-Good Time weren't the only music video's which we took inspiration from although some of the imagery we will use such as the camp fire scene from good time and the stop-motion from end love will play a big part in our piece we also looked at various other videos.

This is Dario G-Sunchyme.When we began to consider what our band would be wearing, we had various idea's come to mind. As one of the group memebers had recently viewed this video they showed us it and we thought about perhaps using this as inspiration for our costume, as we were planning on filming areas in the woods we would dress them in woodland animal costume using paints and our artistic skills to create these. By doing this it would give our video something highly unique and something to remember when people viewed the finished piece.

However once we had contacted the band in which they then invited us to their halloween gig they told us they would be in halloween costume and we wanted this to flow with the rest of the costumes used, so the Dario G-Sunchyme wouldn't really work. But we came across another video which uses skeleton costumes within the piece. Bastille-Flaws uses face paint to creat skeleton costumes but the actors are in every day clothing we also liked this idea of having the band in every day clothing with face paint on meaning there will be uniqueness within the piece.
After being invited to the bands gig we came across another video which gave us inspiration of how to film it and what sort ouf camera shots etc would work best. This video is called Mike Fantastic - Turn Off the Lights most of the footage used it shot a live gig this gave us huge inspiration and we decided that we would use aspects of the their live gig within the
music promo.
